The Henry Company which is an organic home grower and last week have been forced to recall Avocados from six different states including: Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Avocados are a staple of california cuisine. From salads to tacos to burgers, Avocados are apart of almost every meal in California. Now what if they were forced to be taken away? A California Avocado Grower have recalled their avocados from six different states.

Henry Company has recalled all of their avocados due to a possible contamination with the bacterium listeria monocytogenes, Which is a facultative anaerobic bacterium, capable of surviving in the presence or absence of oxygen.

This Bacteria can grow and reproduce inside a host’s cells and is one of the most complex foodborne pathogens, with 20 to 30% of the people contracting this bacteria to be high risk wich meaning the bacteria could be fatal.

Knowing how much Californians love their Avocados i went to my local supermarket and asked people shopping specifically for Avocados what they think about possibly coming into contact with this bacteria and if it was worth the risk?

Cathy Smith, 39 “I had no idea this was going on, I am going to avoid buying Avocados for a while till i find out more information about what is going on and what stores they were shipped too til then i could go without an avocado.”

Ray Martin, 28 “Well at least it’s not the measells, I mean it’s still scary but i’ve never heard of that bateria before so im sure its not that bad.”

After informing Martin how bad the possible contamination is he had changed his mind and later stated “I think I’ll just put them back and find alternative to make guacamole.”

Ben Plume, 54 “I rarely eat avocados but now that i know this, I dont think ill eat another avocado for another year.”

There is a possibility that other Avocados have possibly been contaminated by this bacteria, check local vendors and ask before eating where your Avocado comes from before you take another bite of an Avocado in California.
